Ah, school holidays. Six long weeks of entertaining the kids. Motorised outdoor blinds might not seem like a lifesaver, but these plus a few key outdoor tips will make all the difference in keeping your kids busy at home this summer.
But thanks to the great Sydney weather, chances are your outdoor area can provide hours of entertainment for the kids. You just have to know how to utilise it to its full potential.
Create a playground right on your doorstep
You don’t need a huge area to ensure your backyard is kid-friendly. Play areas such as swing sets, trampolines or cubby houses provide a world of fun for younger kids.
They’re great for imaginative play and in the case of trampolines, they provide excellent exercise opportunities. Perfect to tire the kids out so they can rest in the afternoon.
Introduce a kid-friendly garden
Chat to your local nursery about what plants and vegetables are child-friendly and low-maintenance that will thrive during the warmer months.
Take your child along to choose the plants, and then plant them together in their own special place of the garden or courtyard. This will create a sense of ownership.
Each day, your child can tend to the garden, watering it and cutting off any weeds that may be growing. It’s a great project to teach children about plant-life and also gets them outside in the sunshine. Winning!
Lay down some artificial grass
A soft play surface, exceptionally low maintenance and perfect for kids, artificial grass is a great way to extend your outdoor living space.
It’s non-slip so an excellent option for water play such as water tables, blow-up swimming pools or even a good old fashioned water fight between kids with water balloons and water sprayers. Just make sure the artificial grass has the right drainage.
Extend the living space
One of the best things about summer is the family’s ability to enjoy the indoors and the outdoors, often at the same time. While the kids are frolicking outside, you can be inside organising whatever it is you need to do that day, cooking dinner or even getting some work done if required.
What helps extend the living space even more is installing some outdoor roller blinds. In the harsh summer sun, they provide shade, and when those Sydney summer-storms hit, having outdoor blinds means the kids can still enjoy the fresh air without getting saturated.
Best of all, they can be motorised so they can be open and closed at the simple touch of a button.
It’s totally understandable that kids want to be enjoying their outdoor spaces during the warmer months so setting up your area to be child-friendly, with activities that can keep kids occupied for a good chunk of the day is a wonderful way to pass the time.
Just remember to enjoy it with them from time to time. After all, it’s your summer too!
